Rangers striker Joe Dodoo is set to return to the Ibrox in the January transfer window following his miserable loan spell with Charlton Athletic. The forward signed for the League One side on the deadline day and did have a fantastic start as he scored in his Charlton debut.

But since he has failed to back up his opening day display with notable performances and now it will all be back to square one. The 22 year arrived in the last summer and made 25 appearances for the Gers but mostly from the bench.

Dodoo came through the Academy of Leicester City but couldn’t make much at the King Power Stadium and subsequently, he went on to become one of the arrivals at the Rangers last summer. But former gaffer Pedro Caixinha seemed to be not in the favour of keeping the player at the Ibrox and sent him out on loan.

But now with the gaffer not in the charge anymore, Dodoo might have some luck back. Rangers are currently placed second in the Scottish Premiership table and are five points behind from league toppers Celtic and are eyeing a change in their team management with a new gaffer at the helm in the near future.

So the Gers do have a realistic chance to cut their deficit and Rangers will have to throw all the hats to the pitch. Barring Alfredo Morelos, none of the centre-forwards has come up with something extraordinary so interim coach Graeme Murty could do some great things with an extra pair of legs.

Dodoo has been struggling to nail down a regular spot with Charlton and recently he has been sidelined with a calf injury. Charlton boss Karl Robinson said on the injury, “He did his calf in the warm-up – that’s another player we have out.

“He’s not played many minutes, it is what it is. Sometimes with loans, whether it’s my fault, possibly, they don’t always hit the ground running the way you expect.”

Probably Dodoo doesn’t have that x-factor in him but he could be an impactful player for Rangers. Dodoo was pushed down in the pecking order by Alfredo Morales and his injury concerns also didn’t go well with him.

But with all the strikers firing blank he might have a last shot at the Ibrox. He might not be in the first team plans but he has to take all the chances that come up towards him.
